TV Review: Stranger Things (2016-)

image⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ 5/5   [TV-14]

Stranger Things is a supernatural sci-fi thriller in which a young boy mysteriously disappears and his friends, mother, and brother, as well as the local police chief attempt to get him back. The whole show takes place in 1983 so there is a lot of 80s memorabilia, the characters are well-written, the child-actors did an amazing job, and I love the awesome soundtrack. Stranger Things is like a delicious 8-hour goodie bag full of the best parts of sci-fi in the 80s and it is definitely unmissable!

Kids 12 and up shouldn’t have any trouble watching this unless they get nightmares easily.

Available only on Netflix.

TV Review Supernatural (2005-)

image⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ 5/5   [TV-14]

Supernatural is a long running show about two brothers who hunt various creatures and monsters from various mythologies and legends. It has pretty decent effects for a TV show and also has plenty of drama and action as well as comic relief. It went downhill for a couple seasons when it got very repetitive but by season 10 it was back on track. The cast is great because they are basically brothers themselves after doing the show together for 10 years. I recommend Supernatural if you are interested in mythology and legends or just need a new show to binge watch on Netflix. Supernatural is likely too dark for kids under 12.

Available on iTunes, Amazon, and Netflix.

Resident Evil (2002)

image⭐️⭐️⭐️⛅️☁️ 3.5/5   [R]

Resident Evil is surprisingly good for a video game movie! It’s about a military unit sent into an underground lab after an accident results in a zombie virus being released so it’s not the most unique film out there. It’s got good action and suspense though so i suggest you watch it if you enjoy zombie/monster movies! It is pretty frightening and violent so I wouldn’t recommend for most kids younger then 13.

Available on iTunes, Amazon, and Netflix.

The Voices (2015)

image⭐️⭐️⭐️⛅️☁️ 3.5/5   [R]

First off, if your squeamish do not watch this movie, it is chock-full of blood and dismemberment! The acting is pretty good, many scenes are quite creepy and many are funny, but only if you have the right sense of humor. There is a lot of swearing (usually used humorously) as well as all the violence so I wouldn’t recommend letting kids watch this movie, mature teens should be ok with it though. Overall, if you enjoy messed up psychotic black comedies than The Voices is the movie for you!

Available on iTunes and Amazon.

Tucker and Dale vs. Evil (2010)

image⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️☁️ 4/5   [R]

Tucker and Dale is a horror comedy that is not your typical slasher movie. It’s got funny characters and a good message hidden behind buckets of blood, the plot is poking fun at normal horror films, for example the hillbillies in the cabin in the woods are the good guys! If you are not a fan of violence or gore you should probably stay away. This movie has Alan Tudyk in it which is a bonus. I suggest Tucker and Dale to any fans of comedic violence and gore! For children/teens I recommend 14 and up unless very mature.

Available on iTunes, Amazon, and Netflix.

Grabbers (2012)

image⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ 5/5   [UK: 15]

Grabbers, one of my favorite guilty pleasures, is an absolutely hilarious Irish comedy horror movie about aliens and pubs that anyone looking for some good laughs will enjoy! It is pretty gory, but not Kingsman gory, and is in my opinion, a very under-appreciated film! I VERY highly recommend this to fans of comedies and/or monster-movies. For kids, I think 13 or older would be best (mainly language, drinking and some jump scares) and I believe if this was rated in America it would be R.

Available on iTunes, Amazon, and Netflix.
