The Lost City of Z is a biographical drama based on the life of British explorer Col. Percival Fawcett, who attempted to find a supposed ancient city deep in the jungle of Amazonia. The acting is very good and I was pleasantly surprised by the wonderful score that helps keep the movie afloat. This film was beautifully shot in actual parts of the Amazon jungle and it really shows, The Lost City of Z is a visually amazing movie. This a rare breed of film nowadays and I recommend you see it.

I’m pretty sure kids 12 or 13 and up could see this movie.

Bridge of Spies (2015)

image⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️☁️ 4/5   [PG-13]

Directed by Steven Spielberg and starring Tom Hanks, Bridge of Spies is a wartime biographical drama about an insurance lawyer (Hanks) who finds himself thrust into the center of the Cold War when the CIA asks him to defend a Russian Spy in court. Impressively acted and well written characters makes Bridge of Spies well worth watching, especially if you enjoy wartime films. Most kids around about 10 or older would definitely be old enough to watch this movie.

Available on iTunes and Amazon.

Jack Strong (2014)

image⭐️⭐️⭐️⛅️☁️ 3.5/5   [UK: 15]

Jack Strong is a polish movie based on the true story of a man named Ryszard Kuklinski, who leaked Soviet information to the Americans during the Cold War. I had a hard time following this film during the first half because it skips around through several years. The rest of the movie is very good and quite suspenseful, the soundtrack helps add a lot to the suspense. I recommend this movie if you like spy thrillers or wartime movies. There is some violence and language in Jack Strong but I think most kids over the age of 11 should be able to watch this film, although the plot may be hard to follow and it is almost completely subtitled.

Available on iTunes, Amazon, and Netflix.

Goodfellas (1990)

image⭐️⭐️⛅️☁️☁️ 2.5/5   [R]

This movie has amazing acting, the plot is pretty uninteresting though, it’s a true story about three very unlikable gangsters killing other very unlikable gangsters, and that’s about it. I kept expecting the point of the movie to show up, but it never did. All in all, if you like dramas and great acting, you will probably enjoy Goodfellas, if not though, I don’t recommend it. This film does contain lots of violence and drug use so under 13 years old may be too young.

Available on iTunes and Amazon.

Red Dog (2011)

image⭐️⭐️⭐️☁️☁️ 3/5   [PG]

This movie is based on the great true story about a dog that befriends a whole town in Australia! It’s very emotional at times (you may need tissues on hand) and pretty funny at others. If you love dogs than this movie should be good for you, but if you’re in a bad mood than it’s not the time to see this film. I think all ages is fine for Red Dog.

Available on iTunes and Netflix.

Kon-Tiki (2012)

image⭐️⭐️⭐️⛅️☁️ 3.5/5   [PG-13]

Based on the true story, Kon-Tiki is an impressive film about 6 guys floating across the Pacific Ocean on a raft! It has some amazing sea animals in it and the characters are mostly likeable! If you like the movie, you should read the book written by the main character! I say you should watch Kon-Tiki if you enjoy historical movies, however many younger children may find it boring and there is one scene with quite a bit of blood (not human however) so I think 10 or 11 years old is fine.

Available on iTunes and Amazon.

Unbroken (2014)

image⭐️⭐️⛅️☁️☁️ 2.5/5   [PG-13]

Well, at least someone enjoyed it. My family and I watched this and half of us had read the book and the other half (including myself) hadn’t, the former enjoyed it so much more than the latter. It was just plain boring and I really didn’t care much about what happened to the characters. So if you have read the book I suggest the movie, but if not, find something else to watch.

Available on iTunes and Amazon.
