King Kong (1976)

King Kong might have been good when it came out but the effects don’t hold up, at all. It’s about a boat going to an unexplored island for petroleum and finding a giant monster resembling a gorilla. The acting isn’t that great (this was Jessica Lange’s first acting role) and half the budget was blown on a giant 40ft robotic gorilla which was used for less than 1 minute of the final film, this resulted in most of the film being a guy in a gorilla suit infront of a screen. I actually did enjoy this movie though not because it was good but because I like old monster movies such as the old Godzilla films. So in the end I wouldn’t recommend this film if you aren’t into monster movies or if you can’t stand bad effects. As for my age recommendation, I believe any age could handle King Kong.

Available on iTunes, Amazon, and Netflix.

Soylent Green (1973)

Soylent Green is a good movie for its time, but it can’t compete with today’s movies. The lack of soundtrack bugs me, and the plot is a little hard to follow although it is a good plot. I think this movie is ok for family audiences. If you like this movie I would suggest Snowpiercer which is a newer movie that’s kind of similar and is pretty great.

Available on iTunes and Amazon.
