Young Sherlock Holmes (1985)

image⭐️⭐️⭐️☁️☁️ 3/5   [PG-13]

I found this to be a good movie! The big thing I noticed is the similarities between Young Sherlock Holmes and the first Harry Potter movie! (Harry Potter and The Sorcerers Stone) For example, the hall Holmes and Watson are eating in is very similar to the great hall from HP! Here are all the other similarities I noticed:

Dudley (also the name of Harry’s cousin) looks and acts much like Draco Malfoy.

PHolmes, Watson, and Elizabeth are similarly to Harry, Ron, and Hermoine.

The scene in the library where they have a lantern is like the scene where Harry investigates the restricted section.

John and Sherlock take the flying vehicle from Elizabeth’s uncle’s shop, which at least reminds me of Ron and Harry taking Ron’s dad’s car.

The scene near the end in the pyramid was similar to the scenes from around the same time in the movie in HP with the chess pieces and the guy with turbin! This scene also reflects Steven Sielperg’s involvement with this movie, as he works on the Indiana Jones franchise.

Also the scene with all the sweets attacking John reminded me of the scene where Ron and Harry are tricking Crab and Goyle with cupcakes.

The soundtrack in the action scences is similar.

Finally the general cinematic feel is very alike.

The reason these are so similar is because this movie actually came out before J.K Rowling wrote Harry Potter, so the books could be inspired by Young Sherlock Holmes, also Chris Columbus was involved in 3 Harry potter movies as well as Young Sherlock!

I would recommend this movie to a family audience that doesn’t mind a few cliches!
